In 2021, Family Transition Place and Orangeville Public Library hosted a poetry contest in celebration of Poetry Month (April). Youth were challenged to express resilience in only six words and wow, did they rise to the challenge. All of the entries we received were incredible and so inspiring. This video features the winning entry in each grade.

This year, 2022, we challenge youth to write a six word poem about optimism. Optimism is defined as “hopefulness and confidence about the future.” Having optimism during uncertain or difficult times is an important skill that allows us to feel happier and more motivated to try new things. As things open up and fresh starts begin at school and in extracurricular activities it can be helpful to enter into these new opportunities with an optimistic attitude.

To celebrate new beginnings, and poetry month, the library's program team and the awesome youth educators at Family Transition Place challenge you to write a six-word poem that highlights a message of optimism.
