Disclaimer: Only try this on pens you plan to trash anyway so if you are too heavy-handed, you won't be disappointed. I assume no responsibility for your DIY job, I'm just sharing a creative way that works for me and is pretty fun.

-Unglazed stoneware will sharpen a knife, so of course you can end up "sharpening" your nib instead of smoothing it if you're not careful. As my husband would say, it doesn't take a "rocket surgeon" to do this, but be smart and don't try it on your expensive pens, send those to professionals for repair.

Having said all that, please try this at home, it's fun! (Just use a cheap pen.)
