Fireside is a premier television talk show that airs every Monday at 9 PM on Kantipur Television. As the flagship program of the network, it has been a staple for nearly two decades. Currently hosted by prominent journalist Rupesh Shrestha, Fireside tackles critical socio-political issues, featuring major figures who are accountable to the public.

Nepal's constitution has made significant provisions for women's rights, aiming to end discrimination, violence, and abuse against women, and ensuring inclusive and proportional representation. Accordingly, laws and policies are being formulated. However, while women's representation in state institutions is visible as per the constitution's directives, meaningful participation remains elusive. On the other hand, state agencies themselves are reporting an increase in incidents of violence against women. In today's issue of Fireside, we are discussing the efforts being made to end all forms of discrimination against women and the challenges we face.
Joining us is Bandana Rana, a third-time elected member of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), a committee dedicated to ending all forms of discrimination against women. Rana is the first Nepali woman to reach this level at the UN. For three decades, Rana has been working at the local and international levels to empower women, enhance their capacities, and end violence against women.
