The Organ, The Dance Band and Me (Billy Thorburn's Band) Vocal refrain: Helen Raymond - Let's Break The Good News (That You're In Love With Me) Foxtrot (Joe Davis -- Paul Denniker), Odeon 1938 (UK; German edition)

NOTE: Billy Thorburn - British piano and organ virtuose. The son of a church verger, Thorburn from an early age was educated in music with a view to a serious career but service in WW1 introduced him to jazz and he began working in concert parties and eventually became a dance band musician with Jack Hylton's Queens Hall Roof Orchestra (from 1922 to 1924). In following years he became involved with the Savoy Orpheans directed by Debroy Somers, Sydney Kyte's Piccadilly Hotel Band and had recorded with Jay Wilbur's Orchestra, as well as spending three years or so with Jack Payne (from 1932 to 1936). In 1936 he formed his own dance band (Billy Thorburn and His Music) which made several records with Parlophone (see in YT their absolutely fabulous recording of "No Regrets"    • Swing from London: Billy Thorburn & H...   and "Don't Ever Change"    • Tribute to London - Billy Thorburn - ...   ).

In 1938 Billy added an organ to the usual lineup, thus from 1938 what had been Billy Thorburn and His Music became a new aggregation known as The Organ, The Dance Band and Me ("'me" was Billy, of course). It was a novel concept that produced many fascinating records in which the organ was skilfully blended with the rest of the band. A number of famous organists were used, starting with Reginald Foort. At times the old format was also used to make tracks under their previous name. Recordings were always on the Parlophone 78 rpm label in London (re-pressed in Europe under various labels, including Odeon) and about 288 tracks were made. Thorburn's band recorded into the mid 1950's. See some more of their earliest recordings, which I uploaded in YT some time ago "To Mother With Love"    • The Organ, Dance Band and Me (Billy T...   and "Little Gypsy Of The Seven Seas"    • Swing in London: Billy Thorburn Orch....
