Responding to a query from Raghuram Rajan about employment pitfalls, Fedeli emphasized that while AI replaces some roles, it simultaneously creates significant opportunities, noting that Ontario added 17,000 AI workers last year. He stated, 'If you're worried about losing jobs to AI, then you better get with the program,' urging businesses to 'lean in' to the technology. Fedeli provided examples of AI's positive impact, such as autonomous cleaning vehicles in retail and AI-guided drones in Northern Ontario's mining sector, which enhance safety and productivity. On the subject of regulation, he acknowledged the difficulty of governing rapidly evolving tech, citing the persistent use of fax machines in medical offices as a hurdle to modernization. He concluded that while regulation is necessary for 'social license,' innovation must continue to push boundaries to ensure economic competitiveness.
