Pentecostal Power (Weekly Hymn Project)

Today's hymn is "Pentecostal Power".

I must admit, when I first read the word "pentecostal", my mind may go to raising hands, speaking in tongues, and other things - of which I'm not completely speaking against. Just not a word I use all the time; but this song reminds us of the account of the Holy Spirit coming upon the disciples in Jerusalem and while some may get shall I say "distracted" on some things as evidence of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, the words chosen speak quite powerfully not of things that can divide many of us, but of work in our hearts that we all need: "cleansing, purifying flame" (cleaning our hearts of sin), "mighty works for Thee prepare", "all self consume and sin destroy"; and then I think my favorite line from the refrain, "That sinners be converted and Thy Name glorified!" Oh Lord, may it be!
