The Schola Cantorum Transsylvaniensis chamber choir from Cluj-Napoca was founded in 2022, with the occasion of the first Bach Marathon in the town. Despite its short existence, it has already enjoyed invitations to several renowned church music events. With their programs, which cover all eras from the Gregorian chants to the modern era, they have performed at such famous occasions as the Bach Marathon (2023), the Hungarian Days in Cluj-Napoca (2023), KlausenMusik (2023), the Church Music Biennale in Cluj-Napoca (2024) the Bachwoche Wien (2023, 2024), Reformed Unity Day in Debrecen (2025) or Musica Barcensis in Brașov (2025). Apart from Cluj, they were also invited to other cities: Târgu-Mureș, Alba Iulia, Hunedoara, Brașov (România), Vienna (Austria), Debrecen (Hungary). The choir has now developed into a group of sixteen members, which is optimal for performing Renaissance and Baroque choral literature. The goal of the Schola Cantorum Transsylvaniensis is to realize an authentic performance of these vocal and vocal-symphonic works. Their repertoire includes such famous works as Johann Sebastian Bach’s motets Lobet den Herrn alle Heiden and Jesu, meine Freude, and his oratorical works St. John’s Passion and Christmas Oratorio, Georg Friedrich Händel’s Dixit Dominus or Domenico Scarlatti’s Stabat Mater, but they also performed many Renaissance and modern works.
