Plot: Ben survives the fight with Palpatine at the end of TROS. He tries to become part of the Resistance but he begins getting visions of Hux in the Force and his focus shifts: Hux is alive, having survived being shot by Pryde and is hiding in exile somewhere. Ben takes the Falcon and makes it his mission to find Hux. After months and months of tracking and searching, he finds that Hux is living on Lisuan Prime, a planet with a terrain similar to Naboo. He’s changed his name and is living in a secluded part of the planet’s northern hemisphere where he masquerades as a wealthy retiree with dyed blonde hair—no more ginger General.


Unsure of how to approach the situation, Ben just breaks into Hux’s home and tries to find him, but the disturbance wakes up Hux and he’s almost sent into panic at the sight of someone he thought was dead.

The next morning, Hux wakes again, hoping that the whole thing was a nightmare and Kylo Ren isn’t in his house, but he is. Hux completely ignores him, hoping that he’ll get the hint and go away but Ben is persistent, still harbouring feelings for his ex-love. When Hux returns home from a formal party that evening, Ben is still there. He decides to confront him but Ben is quick to correct Hux when he uses Kylo’s name to talk to him but it only annoys Hux more. Ben may be his birth name but Ren is his true self, Hux says. Ben wonders if Hux is right but diverts the conversation with a comment about Hux’s dyed hair.


They get into an argument. Hux tells Ben that he doesn’t need him and that he wants him to leave but Ben gets angry, yelling at Hux for always making him feel unwanted and making him aware of his failures. He argues that Hux chose the life in the First Order but became a spy for the Resistance when it didn’t suit him anymore. He used Ren and then betrayed him. Ben wants to know the truth: did Hux ever really love him or did he hate him? As he cries, he hears the venomous words of Snoke and Rey in his mind but none sting more than Hux’s declaration of ‘I need Kylo Ren to lose’.


Hux feels his heart sink as he watches Ben fall to his knees in tears. He can’t help but go over to him and put his hand on his shoulder. Without hesitation, Ben hugs Hux’s legs and apologises. It would seem that they’re back at the beginning, where Ben is a lost boy and Hux picks up the pieces.



Things settle and they talk again that evening. Ben says that they can do it together, live in hiding and in peace, whilst Hux jokes that, knowing the pair of them, that isn’t likely, but Ben admits that he made a mistake in turning back to the light. Kylo Ren isn’t dead but very much alive, as he and Ben are one in the same. He loves Hux and misses him and just wants them to be together. Hux’s eyes fill with tears as he smiles, recognising Ren in front of him. They kiss for the first time since being reunited.

The next morning, Hux goes outside in the cool winter air for some time alone whilst Ren is still sleeping. He reminisces over the times that he and Ren shared together when they were rivals, leading up the time where Hux admitted that he doesn’t ever want to lose Ren. He smiles, knowing now that Ren belongs with him.


That evening, Hux decides to tell Ren exactly how he feels. He hadn’t realised it at the time but the days where they were co-commanders were the happiest of his life. Ren agrees. They smile, kiss, and fall into bed together.


Ren is gone when Hux wakes the next morning and he goes outside to find him practicing his lightsaber form with a make-shift blade made from wood. Hux smiles, impressed and in awe by Ren’s skill and beauty. Hux knows that he ruined everything, mainly Kylo’s reign.


Snow covers the ground the next morning but Hux still goes out for a stroll. Ren follows, worried, but Hux is fine, better than he’s been in a long time.


Ren asks if he can come home with Hux, missing ‘forever’ from the end of his question. Hux smiles and takes his hand, leading him back to their home where they sit in front of the roaring fire, a quiet and long life ahead of them both. Together.
