FRANCE: FASHION HOUSE GIVENCHY SHOWS COLLECTION

French fashion house Givenchy has shown its Autumn/Winter Haute Couture collection for 99/2000.

British designer Alexander McQueen turned to the silver screen for his inspiration, with models sporting beaded harlequin outfits and vampish Veronica Lake-inspired dresses.

But Givenchy's chief designer, who did not appear at the show, was more subdued than in previous collections, showing a collection of silk suits and brocade dresses.

The 1920s featured heavily: tailcoats, Trilby hats, parasols and Art Nouveau influences were everywhere.
