The political climate in East and West Africa is entering a turbulent phase, with Tanzania and Nigeria becoming focal points of regional and global attention. In Tanzania, rising tensions surrounding the 2025 election have triggered nationwide protests and accusations of democratic backsliding. Critics claim President Samia Suluhu Hassan and the ruling CCM party are using state power to silence dissent, restrict opposition activity, and tighten control over institutions. Viral incidents—such as the sudden disappearance of Air Force officer John Charles Tesha after he publicly criticized the government—have intensified public concern over freedom of speech, accountability, and the safety of whistleblowers. Protesters argue that Tanzania is at risk of slipping toward authoritarianism, while the government dismisses these claims as politically motivated narratives meant to destabilize the country ahead of the election.
At the same time, Nigeria faces a different kind of crisis—one deeply entangled with religion, violence, and foreign influence. Former U.S. President Donald Trump recently declared that the “slaughter of Christians in Nigeria will not stand,” reigniting international debate about insecurity in the country. Following his comments, the U.S. relisted Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” sparking fears of external intervention. The Biafra Government in Exile (BRGIE) publicly welcomed Trump’s stance and reportedly proposed sweeping agreements that include U.S. military bases, mining access, intelligence cooperation, and political recognition in exchange for American support. Many Nigerians view these moves as a modern version of old colonial tactics—foreign powers exploiting internal conflict for geopolitical gain. Meanwhile, the killings in Nigeria’s Middle Belt and northwest continue to raise urgent questions about state capacity, religious tensions, and the true motives behind sudden U.S. interest.
Together, Tanzania’s election unrest and Nigeria’s internationalized religious crisis highlight a broader African struggle: the battle between sovereignty, foreign influence, and the fight for democratic freedom across the continent.

🇲🇬 Madagascar’s New Era Begins | Colonel Michael Randrianirina Sworn In After Military Takeover
Colonel Michael Randrianirina has officially been sworn in as Madagascar’s new president, just days after the army took control of the Indian Ocean nation. The former head of the elite CAPSAT unit has traded his fatigues for a suit, promising to fix the country’s crippling power and water shortages that sparked weeks of Gen Z-led protests.
President Andry Rajoelina fled amid mass demonstrations, leading to his impeachment and a sudden change of power. Randrianirina’s rise marks a historic turning point — but also raises global questions about democracy, military transitions, and Madagascar’s future ties with Russia and France.
In this video, we break down:
⚡ How youth-led protests toppled the government
⚖️ Why the Constitutional Court insists this wasn’t a coup
🌾 Randrianirina’s three immediate priorities — Jirama, rice, and reform
🌍 What this means for Africa’s shifting alliances
