Описание к видео S25E07 Disjunct Arctic Alpine plants, Worthington Beach, North Shore, Lake Superior, Ontario, Canada

In this video we hike to Worthington beach, on the north shore of Lake Superior, south of the town of Schreiber, Ontario, Canada to look for disjunct Arctic alpine plants. Along the way, we see evidence of historic mining activity, walk through a valley that likely was created by a melting glacier at the end of the last ice age, 10,000 years ago, and yes, we did see disjunct Arctic alpine plants species. I share a few geological features as well as some of the wild plants I saw.

The date of this hike was June 14, 2025, so some plants were not in bloom and some were just budding. Recall, we are hiking along the cold north shore of Lake Superior, so plant growth is delayed.

We staged this hike out of the town of Schreiber, Ontario, Canada. Schreiber is located about 15 km or 8.5 miles west of the town of Terrace Bay, along Highway 17, also known as the southern route of the Trans Canada Highway. The beach on Worthington Bay is located about 5 km or 3 miles due south of Schreiber. Join me as we enjoy the scenery, a little geology, and associated wild plants at the rocky Worthington beach area, on the north shore of Lake Superior, Ontario, Canada. Enjoy
