Having failed to discredit the faked evidence against him, Winter sets out to unravel the mystery of how the smugglers have repeatedly evaded arrest. In doing so, he uncovers links to a Mossad agent, Sol Halutz, and industrial sabotage within Milcom, a military technology company. Although Milcom refuses to disclose their affected customers, their head of security teams up with Winter in his investigation. Her company is facing bankruptcy, and if the security breach becomes public knowledge, they will lose the big contract that could save them.

Halutz is tailing an anti-Israeli assassination squad operating in the British capital. Soon his investigations collide with Winter’s, and Winter finds himself fighting for his own survival from the windswept marshes near the Sussex town of Rye to the frozen streets of Helsinki.

Meanwhile, when some of the assassins’ hits start to go wrong, they believe they have a traitor in their midst. The smugglers take on a new courier, but begin to suspect he’s not all he seems. When Winter traces the man behind his dismissal to Finland, however, all the pieces of the case come violently together, and he unearths a plot that is set to trigger full-scale war in the Middle East.

Time is running out, and there’s suddenly a lot more at stake than just his career.
