Today is March 8th. International Women's day. I'm going to celebrate a couple of women in my life, you ladies. Cheers to you. Cheers to us.

Kate lynch. One of Canada's top actresses and a director and a playwright. And she was in Meatballs. She won Genie for that. She was nominated for best actress in 1988 as well for Taking Care. She's been on some of our favorite shows. The littlest hobo, this is wonderland, degrassi, Street legal, night heat, Danger bay, The Lost girl, the Edison twins. Some of her place include 10 minute play the musical, newcomer early august. And she's taught at the now Metropolitan University in toronto, George Brown College Shaw festival. Ladies and gentlemen. Kate Lynch. Yeah. There's the top of her head. Here I am.
Beautiful. Thank you so much for doing this. I'm flattered to be invited. I love your show. I just loved watching it. So thank you very much.

How did you get into acting? What was the spark when you were a kid? I'm assuming you were a kid.
I used to do plays in my backyard. I used to write them and direct them. On one occasion, my cousin was playing Rumpelstiltskin, and she wasn't very good, so I fired her. Cutthroat. I was clearly made for the world of theater.
Did you then go to school for it? Oh no. I never did. I went to two auditions for professional theater and got them both so I thought, wow this is easy. It didn't stay that easy. But I also but I also started off with Paul Thompson making up shows. It was good for me I didn't have anything technical to bring to the game you know.
Your very first credit was a TV series called Custard Pie.
They show a pic from Custard Pie. Can you tell us what this is? I have no idea. Shortly afterwards I did Meatballs. Your resume is reading like a menu.

Oh my goodness. I didn't want to do it. The script was terrible. And when Bill Murray came, he said to me, come on let's go look at the script. And he was sitting there reading and going this is awful. This is terrible. You know we can't do this. So we basically started improvising.
Another movie you did in 1987, Taking Care. Oh yeah.

They did a really good job writing this particular one. You were nominated for a genie for that. That was your second nomination. Yeah the first one,weirdly, I got. Yeah that was weird. Meatballs wasn't really an award-winning performance. You deserved it. You definitely deserved it.

We've never done anything remotely like that here. It was so good. To be the showrunner must have been crazy. Well, it was George. And every actor would say this. You could just go to him and he would give you great ideas. It was really a treat having him on the set.

You got into teaching. When did that happen? I really like working with younger people. Acting students. You have these amazing moments when you're teaching you can see something click in their imagination. You know for them that the world just got bigger.
Do you have anything coming up?
I did just direct a show this last summer the two course women by Robin craig. I'm really hoping that's going to be at another theater sometime next year. Go to IMDb and Kate Lynch and look at everything she's done and then watch it.
