Fault Lines in Bahrain
The U.S. and the New Middle East

Tuesday, August 9, 2011 - 5:00pm - 6:30pm

Join the New America Foundation's Middle East Task Force and Al Jazeera English for an exclusive screening of "Fault Lines."

Why has Washington backed democracy in one Arab country, but not another? AJE's Seb Walker and Jeremy Young traveled to the Gulf to get the full picture. They interviewed democracy activists, protesters and government supporters in Bahrain, as well as those serving in the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet, which is headquartered in Manama. In so doing, "Fault Lines" shines a light on what "stability" means in this U.S.-allied kingdom. After the screening, we'll discuss what the future might hold for Bahrain, its powerful neighbor Saudi Arabia and -- most of all -- U.S. policy in the region if pro-reform protests spread.

The thirty-minute documentary will be followed by a discussion.
