What I have done I can see it’s undeniable.
There are such doings I can never do again.
The height of a particular time’s climb,
today I would stand at its base and imagine only a different being
not me
would make one’s way to that grueling point atop way yonder.
Myself now could never have lived that,
had ridden that again,
and cold and hot again,
gathered the countable so exceeding a number
and lined with words to innumerable pages,
toured and spinned wheels to twilights for a mission to my middle age,
wracked with mortal illnesses
and endurance through days’ purpose to only endure.
How out of body I now see what at a time was mine to deliver.

Today, may I still be in an enormity of trial
that I will only see at a time to come? I don’t believe so.
What the past put upon me, how grateful I am,
yet if it were to pass again I would dread like a fallen spirit,
like a sentence of terrible weight,
a painstaking reality at every turn and breadth.
The now let me please not revisit with a burden maze anew
or let the coming summit so dense be found with trail to be borne with a steady gait.

The supremely fortunate road,
to walk each steps way,
is recognizable to its weathered blazer
looking back at its winding,
but the traveler may not fathom the being who emerged
from its juncture breaks.
