Tayside, United Kingdom.The electro and ghetto scene has enjoyed a successful renaissance over the past few years taking it back to the top of the dance music pyramid and one of the biggest beneficiaries of this was Dundee based artist; YTP. Contributing to many of the scene's biggest labels, his music perfectly embodies the fun, bouncy nature to the genre. More impressively, his sound also pays homage to many of the pioneers before him, by fusing 90s drexciyan sounds with crisply produced modern electro.
From an outsider's perspective it seemed obvious to assume that YTPs roots stemmed from rap/hip-hop, with the how often he samples in his music today. However, it was intriguing to hear that it was only once discovering Texstasy's ghettotech work that he was drawn into hip hop and even admits that he found it impossible to enjoy rap music in a club environment. Since then, he has built up an arsenal of tracks to sample from, which he has used so effectively in his music today.
In addition to the ever expanding discography and accolades as an artist, YTP is involved in the main collective pushing the harder side of electronic music in Dundee. Bringing artists like Tommy Holohan and Clouds, his event company Floor Above have built a community in a city who's thirst for this sound is lacking. Their events at Beat Generator have certainly turned heads within the city and we can guarantee their continued success once the pandemic is over.
