The granting of mining rights is a massive milestone for URU Metals (LON:URU) and its Zeb nickel project, and as Executive Vice President Richard Montjoie explains it “locks in our long-dated certainty while we execute.”

The mining right is for 30 years, which should attract the quality partners Montjoie and the board are seeking to collaborate with and possibly co-fund on this ‘district scale’ footprint on the Northern Limb.

The Northern Limb of the Bushveld Complex in South Africa is a major geological feature known for its mineral deposits, particularly platinum-group elements and base metals like nickel and copper and includes the province of Limpopo where Zeb is located.

The granted rights not only derisk Zeb further, but makes the project more tangible as the company is now able to notify the insured and affected parties, notify communities, and get its social labour plan up and running.

While that housekeeping is underway it’s business as usual for URU as it continues its programme of derisking the downstream element of the development curve as it explores for the nickel sulphide systems that early data is pointing to.

Montjoie is confident the upcoming ground gravity and frequency domain electromagnetic surveys on its two priority targets along its recently defined intrusive body will locate an ore body at best, and definitely provide more valuable information for the company’s geological database.

Once the data is received from this month’s programme, the next steps will be modelling decision-ready drill targets, and as Richard explains to Sarah Lowther in this video interview, this is where a technical partner who can contribute knowledge and technical depth on nickel sulphide systems would be excellent with URU and partner co-designing a tightly focussed drill programme.
