When we visited the Colosseum in Rome Italy, we were overwhelmed by its majestic presence and the wealth of history hidden within its ancient walls. As tourists amidst a large crowd, we were initially surprised by the sheer number of other visitors, all eager to explore this iconic landmark.

Upon entering the Colosseum, we were greeted by strict security checks at the entrance, which provided a reassuring sense of protection. After passing through the security, our tour began, led by a knowledgeable guide from Booking.com. Her explanations were extremely informative and engaging, and we enjoyed learning more about the fascinating history of this ancient amphitheater.

It was impressive to learn that the Colosseum was built in just eight years, with over 100,000 slaves involved in its construction. The scale and magnitude of their work are truly remarkable. Similarly shocking was the fact that during the gladiator fights, approximately 400,000 gladiators were killed, and an incredible 1 million animals were sacrificed for these events.

Despite the grim aspects of its history, the Colosseum still stands today as a testament to human engineering and strength. Its sublime architecture and the stories held within its walls make it an unforgettable part of our trip to Rome.
