Target Audience: Children’s National Registered Nurses

Objectives:

1. Understand the types of head injuries, the mechanisms causing them, and be able to differentiate between mild, moderate, and severe TBIs, including SDH, EDH, and SAH, along with their classic signs and symptoms.

2. Recognize signs and symptoms indicative of severe TBI, identify concerning assessment findings for emergent surgical intervention, and outline priorities of care in the trauma bay.

3. Understand protocols for Q1 hour neuro checks in moderate TBIs, including specific assessments and critical changes necessitating communication, and discuss the critical post-injury time frame.

Successful Completion: 1) View the entire session 2) Complete online post-test/evaluation and attestation of completion. CNEs will only be eligible for a two-year period from the original air date.
