"GROWTH" is a short story about a military veteran finding her way through life's hardships with the help of farming.

Dana Atkins, a Navy veteran from Detroit, Michigan was introduced gardening at a young age due to her great grandmother and grandmother's influence. From a young age she knew the importance and fundamentals of growing your own food. After leaving the Navy and enduring some hardships along the way, Dana somewhat lost her way. Eventually she started wanting more than just a gardening hobby. She began looking for something more intensive. She soon tried a couple of internships but nothing gave her a proper direction. Finally, she found the Rodale Institute and enrolled in their Veteran Farmer Training program. Dana is now starting to gain the confidence and working knowledge needed to begin a career in organic farming. Her plan is to take her skills back to the urban environment. There, she wants to teach and inform the urban community of how they can grow their own food, eat healthy, and be more self sufficient.
