A recreation of the July 25, 1909 aerial crossing from Les Baraques (then a farmyard near Calais, France) to Northfall Meadow (about 300 feet northwest of Dover Castle, UK) by Louis Blériot in his Blériot XI of 25 HP estimated. The historical flight took place at altitudes between 150 and 350 feet, and with a typical cruise speed of about 65 kph (35 kts). Anzani three-cylinder Blériot model used in the clip is a mixture of parts from several, earlier editions of the model by Emmanuel Baranger. YASim FM tweaked for my own customized installation of FlightGear (FG) version 2020.3.19. FG, among other things, sports real-time weather and thermals. Additional Notes: If interested in using historical weather for recreation of this particular flight, recommended is the following METAR string for FlightGear --- LFAC 250400Z 05005KT CAVOK 16/14 Q1016 BECMG 0606/0609 8000 -RA BCFG 08015KT. The string sets up a fairly calm late July morning near Calais, with very light wind and a temperature of about 16 degrees Celsius. The string also includes the possibility for worsening weather a bit later, with rain, likelihood of fog, and increasing winds, as would have have been present near the English coast during that flight. Rain did not form during the recording of this particular flight in FlightGear.
