This is the reason that in the recent report released by Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), India has ranked fourth in terms of self-reliance in defense production, which is a major achievement of the Indian defense industry. This position of India in the SIPRI report becomes very important in the case that India was till now counted among the largest importers of defense equipment, but now India has emerged as an importer as well as an exporter of defense equipment.
