You will need a flathead screwdriver to get your shifter out of park (Your vehicle should come with one. It should be in trunk, under the trunk carpet, where the spare tire is). Flathead screwdriver is a very common tool and if you don't have one, a fellow motorist, your friend would very likely have one. If you cannot absolutely find a screwdriver than you can try using a pin or any other pointed object as well.

Your car's battery is dead! You have a helpful bystander who can help you jump start your car, but the vehicle is parked in a way where the cables are not long enough to reach your battery!
Your car runs out of fuel but can't push your car to the nearest gas station (fueling station/petrol pump/gasoline station)

Tools Needed: 00:18 Flat Headed Screwdriver (Vehicle should come with one. Should be in the same place as the spare tire. In the trunk, under the trunk carpet).

1. Ensure the emergency brake is engaged.
2. Locate the Shift lock release cover which is to the left of the gear shift knob. There should be a label on it that reads 'Shift Lock Release'.
3. On the Shift lock release cover there is a small notch. Put the screwdriver in this notch and pry the cover out. Once the screwdriver is in the notch, wiggle it a little bit and try pulling the screwdriver up. Be careful! You don't want that cover to fly off as you pop it off.
4. Once the cover is off, you will see a white colored flat pin. Use the screwdriver to push on that pin. As long as the pin is pushed the Shifter is released. So push on the pin and then shift the Shifter to desired gear position.
5. As soon you release the pin, the shift lock will be re-engaged.
