✨ In this video I talk about how very young children start texting even before they have learnt how to communicate with each other. This kind of interaction causes kids to miss out on all cues of non-verbal communication, a sophisticated system of facial expressions, moves, gestures, and tones of voice through which we convey the most of our messages. Words are only one piece of the puzzle of what we want to say, and not the most important one. Research shows that this may lead to a decreased ability to read emotions and lower level of empathy. Which in turn may be at the basis of what causes kids to be more direct and aggressive in their exchanges, often leading to distress in their peers, which in turn brings anxiety, depression, eating disorders and many other issues that become more and more common, at younger and younger ages, in the current times.
