Watermelon Granita Recipe ~ Noreen's Kitchen

Greetings! Who's ready for a cool refreshing icy treat this hot summer day?! This is the answer to that is homemade watermelon granita flavored with a bit of simple syrup and some watermelon Torani syrup as well!

This is like Hawaiian shave ice that you make at home. This is delicious and refreshing and only takes a few ingredients and some patience.

I juiced my watermelon without the rind and then strained it to make my granita, but you don't have to have a juicer to make this recipe, just blend the watermelon in the blender or food processor until smooth and run through a strainer to remove the fibers and solids. You really only want the juice for this.

I added a bit of lemon juice, but you could use lime or orange if you prefer and a bit of simple syrup and watermelon Torani. If you don't have Torani syrup, you don't have to use that don't worry! You can just double up on the simple syrup. The syrup is an important ingredient here and you don't want to leave it out or you will end up with nothing buy watermelon ice cubes and it won't slush properly. The sugar is the secret here.

Pour this mix into a flat container and freeze until frozen around the edges and slushy in the middle. Run your fork over everything to slush it up even more and then return to the freeze until frozen completely. Then run your fork through it again and serve. You can pour more flavored watermelon syrup on top if you like and you can garnish with fresh mint or a wedge of lemon or lime for a lovely presentation.
