This patient is 4 months out from an autologous hamstring autograft ACL augmented with Biobrace (ending diameter was 9mm), no meniscal repair this time.
I can not scientifically say that patients are recovering faster....but it sure seems to be trending that way. Not enough for publication yet unless we pool our results!
Biobrace from Conmed is a bioengineered implant that is type 2 collagen and PLLA fibers. It can be sutured and tensioned along with the ACL graft....also is bioinductive....and goes away in a couple years once the job is done! I love that it doesn't stress shield the healing of the main graft. A permanent "brace" or "augment" for soft tissue reconstruction runs the risk of stress shielding the desired soft tissue healing and incorporation I think....
