Cinema at home: Planet of the Apes (recreating Odeon cinema 1968 intro reel)

Описание к видео Cinema at home: Planet of the Apes (recreating Odeon cinema 1968 intro reel)

The original Planet of the Apes reached UK screens in April 1968. As was the norm for 20th Century Fox productions in those days, the vast majority of cinemas showing it were part of the Rank Odeon chain, first in larger cities and then rolling out to smaller locations.

At the time, Fox distributed Apes supported by Donovan Winter's short film 'Promenade'. Frustratingly, this work is pretty much impossible to see today (supposedly the rights are held by a stock footage outlet, licencing it by the minute!) so I was unable to include that in this reel. In its place, I've added an appropriately-themed episode of Rank's short documentary series, Look at Life.

Besides that, you'll find the usual assortment of ads and trailers, including a somewhat less successful project for Apes producer Arthur P Jacobs!

Special thanks to Kineko Video for the 35mm Yellow Submarine trailer - the copy on the Blu-ray has had all the text and graphics reworked and it's painfully obvious.
