Debuting publicly on August 3, 2020, the Lebanese Hezbollah Select Worldwide Activity map will be the largest database of open-source documentation on Hezbollah's global network ever created. It will be an indispensable tool for researchers in government and the private sector seeking to understand the Lebanese terrorist organization.

In this video, project creator Dr. Matthew Levitt, the Institute's Fromer-Wexler Fellow, discusses the genesis of this online tool, its contents, and applications. He is joined by several renowned counterterrorism experts who offer their endorsements.

The launch event will be broadcast live at 1 p.m. (EDT) on The Washington Institute website https://www.washingtoninstitute.org.

The project is based in part on Levitt's groundbreaking book Hezbollah: The Global Footprint of Lebanon's Party of God (Georgetown University Press, 2013), as well as the large body of subsequent work.

The information will be displayed geographically and chronologically, alongside photos and videos, geographic and thematic linkages between entries, primary-source documents supporting each entry, as well as widgets providing links to recent news, analysis, and audiovisual content on Hezbollah’s network of terrorism and organized crime.

The map will launch with over 1,000 entries to start, complemented by source documents, declassified government documents, court documents, and research reports. It will be searchable by category, location, timeline, and/or text search.

The digital interface is designed for intelligence analysts, law enforcement, policymakers, journalists, academics, and students, and will be updated periodically with new entries and additional documents.
