TOP 5 Most Expensive Russian Military Losses in War with Ukraine!

Summary:

Tu-22M3 Backfire. The Tu-22M3 is a supersonic, long-range, strategic bomber designed and manufactured by the Soviet Union and currently operated by the Russian Air Force. It is capable of carrying a variety of weapons, including conventional and nuclear bombs, as well as air-to-surface and anti-ship missiles. The Tu-22M3 has a range of up to 7,000 kilometers and can fly at speeds of up to Mach 1.88 or 2,000 kilometers per hour. It has a unique variable-sweep wing design that allows it to switch between a swept-back wing for high-speed flight and a straight wing for improved maneuverability and slower flight speeds. On December 5, 2022, a drone attack occurred at Dyagilevo Airfield near the city of Ryazan, southeast of Moscow, leaving at least one Tupolev Tu-22M3 damaged beyond repair.

Sukhoi Su-35 Flanker-E. It is the most advanced supermaneuverable multi-role fighter jet in Russian service. The Su-35 was developed by Sukhoi Design Bureau from the Soviet Su-27 Flanker fighter aircraft. Compared to the Su-27, the Su-35 features significant modifications to the airframe, a new radar, new weapons-control system, the latest and best electronics that Sukhoi could obtain, a glass cockpit, and new engines with thrust-vectoring, making it probably the most maneuverable fighter in the world. Though Western experts view this feature as more suitable for airshows than for real-life air-to-air combat, as high angle maneuvers can result in a drastic loss of speed, which is crucial in such operations. It is also capable of super cruise, meaning it can cruise at supersonic speeds without using afterburners, a feature unavailable for older generation jets.

Large landing ship Saratov. The Saratov belongs to the Project 1171 Tapir-class landing ships, a class of Soviet general purpose, beachable amphibious warfare ships. It is capable of carrying 300 to 400 troops and 20 tanks or 40 armored fighting vehicles. The ship was launched in July 1964 and commissioned in 1966 as the Voronezhsky Komsomolets, serving as the lead ship of the formation. On March 25th, 2022, the Saratov, which was stationed at Berdyansk port, was hit by a Tocka-U rocket, caught fire, and ultimately sank. Two Ropucha-class landing ships were also damaged during the attack.

S-400 Triumf. S-400 is a Russian-made air defense system designed to protect against airborne threats, including aircraft, cruise missiles, and even ballistic missiles. The system is composed of multiple components, such as a radar system, command and control center and launchers capable of firing a variety of interceptor missiles. It has a surveillance distance of up to 600 kilometers and can engage targets at a range of up to 400 kilometers, with the capability of engaging up to 80 targets simultaneously at an altitude of up to 185 kilometers. S-400 is regarded as one of the most advanced and expensive air defense systems in the world and has been successfully exported to other countries. One interesting feature of the S-400 is its claimed ability to detect and track stealth aircraft. The Ukrainian Armed Forces reported destroying two S-400 launchers and a radar, though it is unclear if this is true, but there are photos of at least one destroyed launcher.

Cruiser Moskva. Commissioned in 1983 as Slava, this ship was designed to serve a specific purpose: to be an aircraft carrier killer. It carried 16 P-500 Bazalt or upgraded P-1000 Vulcan anti-ship missiles, each with a massive high explosive or even nuclear 1000-kilogram warhead. Besides those missiles it was armed to the teeth. Including such systems as S-300 and OSA air defense systems, naval guns, anti-submarine mortars, and torpedoes. In 1995, the ship was renamed the Moskva in honor of the Russian capital, Moscow. And in 2000, it became the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. At 186.4 meters long and a displacement of 11500 tons when fully loaded, the Moskva was a ship that inspired pride in the Russian people. Putin himself visited the ship on several occasions. However, on April 13th, 2022, it was hit by two Ukrainian-made R-360 Neptune anti-ship missiles. Although the consequences were initially unclear, the ship sank around 3 o'clock in the morning on April 14th.
