Row Over EVMs Reaches India's Supreme Court on Election Eve | Vantage with Palki Sharma

India's supreme court has reserved its verdict on petitions seeking 100% cross-verification of votes with their paper trail. While reserving the verdict, the court also said that "everything" about Electronic Voting Machines cannot be doubted. India's poll body uses electronic machines instead of ballot papers to register votes. These electronic votes generate a paper slip called VVPAT which can be used to verify whether the vote has been cast for the intended candidate. While the petitioners demanded 100% matching of votes and VVPATS, the poll body maintained that EVMs are "impossible to tamper with" at all times.
