Stonor House & Garden

Описание к видео Stonor House & Garden

Stonor House in Stonor Park, near Henley-on-Thames, has been home to the Stonor family for over 850 years, making it one of the oldest habitable family homes in the UK. The oldest parts, including a private chapel, go back to the 12th century. During the English Reformation the family, like other Catholic recusants, was persecuted and heavily fined. Despite this they gave sanctuary in great secrecy to leading Jesuits priests, notably Sir Edmund Campion.
