1. When is Easter 2020?
Unlike Halloween, Christmas and Valentine's Day which all fall on fixed dates, Easter always held on a Sunday between March 22 and April 25. Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday following the full Moon that occurs on or just after the spring equinox. Yes, it’s a bit confusing. Let me break it down: In 2020, the spring equinox happened on Thursday, March 19. The first full Moon to occur after that date rises the night of Tuesday, April 7. Therefore, Easter will be observed on the Sunday of that week, which is Sunday, April 12.
2. What is Easter?
Easter is a Christian holiday. It celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. According to Christian history, Jesus was crucified on a Friday and rose three days later on Sunday.
3. Why is Good Friday Good?
So Jesus died on a Friday, why do we call the day when Jesus was beaten, whipped, and nailed to a cross where he publicly hung on until he died Good? That doesn’t make sense. How is any of that Good? Actually, Good Friday is good, not because Jesus was tortured to death. It’s good because on that Friday, about 2000 years ago, Jesus voluntarily gave up his life, for you and me. What we have to understand is that we were all born with sin starting from Adam and Eve. Good Friday is good because while we all deserve the death penalty for our sin, Jesus willingly gave up his life and died in our place. So Jesus’ death offers us life, and his resurrection on Easter morning is the proof of God’s love and guarantee. And that’s why Good Friday is so good.
4. Why do we call it Easter?
The short answer is that nobody really knows. Some historians suggest that it came from a Latin phrase for “white week,” used to describe the white clothes new Christians wore when they were baptized during Holy Week. A seventh-century historian, writes that the word Easter comes from the goddess Eostre, an ancient goddess of fertility.
5. Why Easter Bunny?
The story of the Easter Bunny is thought to have become common in the 19th Century. Rabbits usually give birth to a big litter of babies, so they became a symbol of new life. Legend has it that the Easter Bunny lays, decorates and hides eggs as they are also a symbol of new life.
6. Why are Easter Eggs made of chocolate?
Because we love chocolate? The first chocolate eggs appeared in France and Germany in the 19th Century. Around 90 million chocolate Easter bunnies or eggs are made for the holiday each year. The largest Easter egg ever made was over 25 feet high!
7. How is Easter celebrated? (Easter Before 2020 VS Easter in 2020)
