IRONSHORE ESTATE, ST. JAMES. JAMAICA
1939-1947
Ironshore Estate, in the parish of St. James used to be a large producer of sugar cane, and it had a factory that produced sugar, molasses, and rum. It extended from Rose Hall on the east to the Montego Bay airport on the west, including Providence on the west and Hartfield on the south. The area shown in the first two photographs is now a part of Coral Gardens.

Unloading cane at the factory
In the fields, the cane was loaded on carts drawn by oxen. When the cane arrived at the factory, it was unloaded by cranes and stacked outside the factory (which was on the left, and not in the picture).
