Описание к видео Who Speaks for Tradition? Balancing Cultural Respect and Human Rights | Emily Font | TEDxNBPS Youth

In my talk, I explore the delicate balance between respecting cultural traditions and advocating for universal human rights, drawing from my transformative experience in Tanzania during a Social Impact Excursion with Nord Anglia and UNICEF.

Through examples I demonstrate how dialogue, education, and hands-on service are critical to creating meaningful, sustainable change and learn how to reframe stark cultural differences as opportunities for connection and collaboration.

Opening animation credit; Rebecca "Bee" Hurley "Emily Font is a 12th-grade student driven by a passion for mental health, cultural inclusion, and fostering meaningful connections. As a neuropsychology intern and future psychology major, she is deeply committed to understanding the human mind while exploring the intersection of psychology and cultural awareness.

As the current longest-serving student ambassador of the Cultural Intelligence and Inclusion (CQI) Council, she has led transformative initiatives that promote inclusivity on North Broward’s Campus by organizing and hosting cultural celebrations, launching social media campaigns, and advocating for diversity in school policy.

During the Nord Anglia Social Impact Excursion to Tanzania, in collaboration with UNICEF, she advocated for the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Sustainable Development Goals, solidifying her commitment to global advocacy and meaningful change.
Driven by a personal commitment to promote empathy and understanding, Emily aspires to blend psychology, storytelling, and cultural intelligence to inspire meaningful dialogue and create lasting social change. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
