Описание к видео The Search for Life in the TRAPPIST-1 System: A New Home?

The Search for Life in the TRAPPIST-1 System: A New Home?

After years looking for planets that could serve as an Earth 2, in 2015 a surprising discovery occurred. Thanks to the telescope TRAPPIST, an ultra-cold dwarf star was identified with three planets around it. They published the finding in 2016, but a year later it was confirmed that in the system there was a total of seven planets of terrestrial size, generating great expectation about the possibility of life. Your support is fundamental to continue exploring the fascinating world of astronomy and the discoveries of the universe. Thanks for accompanying us in this cosmic adventure! TRAPPST-1 became the 'holy grail' of extraterrestrial life, located 40 light years away. It is estimated that three of its planets are in the 'habitable area', an area with ideal conditions for life. This initial discovery has generated a great enthusiasm, since the planets are small and the star is tenue. The lack of atmosphere or a very thin atmosphere does not protect these planets from the radiation of their star. This implies surface temperatures that are not compatible with life. Initial hopes about the existence of atmosphere have been practically discarded. The star that initially gave hope has become an obstacle. Although it is possible that extremist microorganisms could develop on those planets, they would need a denser atmosphere, something that James Webb has not been able to observe. But not everything is lost; hope falls on other planets of the system. The planets e, f and g are those in a more temperate zone, where the conditions could allow for a densest atmosphere. Especially, TRAPPIST-1e is considered the most promising. Recently, the JWST observed changes in light around this planet, suggesting the presence of chemicals in its atmosphere. Despite the indications, there is still uncertainty. Researchers need more observations to confirm if TRAPPST-1e really has a fascinating atmosphere. The next step is to observe the transit of TRAPPist-1e and TRAPPIST-1b simultaneously to obtain clearer information about their atmosphere.
