Delft, the city of Vermeer

Описание к видео Delft, the city of Vermeer

The Vermeer exposition 2023 at the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam is with 650,000 visitors till August 2023 the museum’s most visited exhibition ever. There you can admire 28 of 34 masterpieces of the 17th century painter Johannes Vermeer. He is considered one of the greatest painters of the Dutch Golden Age along with Rembrandt.
Delft, the city of Vermeer, only has reproductions in the Vermeer Centre. The 17th city centre of Delft is modest in size. This is where Johannes Vermeer was baptised, lived, worked, died, and was buried. Vermeer never left Delft. In this video ‘Delft, the city of Vermeer’ we discover downtown Delft, where you still almost hear the footsteps of the painter Johannes Vermeer. Don’t be surprised when you see modern variations as well as cartoons of Vermeer's masterpieces on the streets and in cafes.
Normally Vermeer's works are exhibited only scattered in many European cities (London, Vienna, The Hague, Dublin, Amsterdam etc.) and in major museums in the USA (Washington and New York). The painting ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’ was the inspiration of the novel ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring (1999) by Tracy Chevalier. The 2003 drama film ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’, directed by Peter Webber, is based on the 1999 novel by Tracy Chevalier.
Join us in our journey to Vermeer’s daily life surroundings with the canals, the cosy bridges, the churches and the Prinsenhof. Enjoy watching ‘Delft, the city of Vermeer’.
