Here is a very short version of the history (with major details and critical events missing). Please visit The Alamo website to learn about this historic site.

The Alamo is a historic site located in San Antonio, Texas, USA. It was a Spanish mission and fortress founded in the 18th century and was part of Mexico. After Mexico gained independence from Spain (in 1821), it needed to find a way to protect its northern frontier (which was too far from the capital to reach on foot/horses). Newly independent Mexico passed law that allowed large groups of people (colonists) to move into Texas (still part of Mexico at that time). These colonists, along with native population enjoyed the land and freedom away from the Mexican capital. These colonists freedom and autonomy was challenged with new rules/centralization of power in Mexico City. Mexican Civil War and Texas independent movement was started when the new president of Mexico abolished constitution in 1824. The Battle of Alamo was on March 6, 1836, and lasted for 90 mins and all the defenders were killed in the battle against Mexican Army and they burned all the bodies. The same year, Texan Army defeated Mexican Army and the Republic of Texas was born.
