notting hill (will & anna) | "surreal, but nice."

What a beautiful, beautiful film this is. I will never, ever get tired of watching this. It's so british and cheesy and perfect. And the perfect comfort film, too!

The story is such fanfiction before fanfiction was a thing and it is so well executed. It just transports you into this beautiful world that is definitely romanticised and hightened but also does not shy away from a few real and realistic scenes (the guys at the restaurant objectifying Anna, Will's disabled friend not being able to have kids, the whole thing with the pictures and the paparazzi which would be an even bigger deal now with social media).
And the story is just so good. This has always been and will always be one of my favourite films, there are so many scenes I just love with all my heart. The big ones as much as the small ones, when she throws popcorn on him at the movies, when she goes to hide in his house and they immediately fall into a domestic routine with each other, Anna just going along with everything at his sister's dinner. I just love everything about it.

What I also absolutely love are the writing and the dialogues in this, so that's what I chose to focus on. One of the lines I love most in cinema is "happiness isn't happiness without a violin playing goat".
Notting Hill also has an incredible soundtrack - "when you say nothing at all", "she" and of course "ain't no sunshine" are such iconic songs, I believe it's impossible to listen to them without thinking of this film.
