In the heart of the Peak District I picked a terrible time of year for this one.

Probably my best immersive walk yet but I was totally unprepared for the narrow, muddy paths one slip away from dropping 20 feet at one point into the River Wye, in the middle of a deep limestone gorge.

At points the river levels were so high I had no choice but to walk shin deep into the river in order to carry on.
I had to stop filming a few times in order to climb or descend certain terrain as well as using my tripod as a hiking stick.
The worst part was climbing through a large area of felled trees, falling over three times throughout the hike.

The walk ends with me crossing the stones and finding a way up and out back to the trail, walking through old tunnels and over the viaducts with incredible, rainy scenery.

Despite my near feeling of desperation at times I pushed ahead and captured some of most stunning footage yet!

About the area-
Monsal Trail cuts through fossil limestone that was formed 350 million years ago when the area was a tropical sea near the equator.
Along the trail you will see an old Limekiln built in the 19th century near Millers Dale Station, our starting point.
The trail follows the old Manchester to London Midland Railway Line which closed in the 1960s.

Now the tracks are gone and we have a lovely path that's suitable for everyone., including wheelchairs.

Just don't be tempted to go off the beaten path at the first viaduct and take those muddy stairs down the river unless you're prepared!
