The founder of the leading Chinese robotics firm, Unitree, wants the US and China to put aside their differences for the sake of fake humans.

During a recent press conference organized by the Chinese government, Unitree CEO Wang Xingxing highlighted the mainland’s strength in hardware and manufacturing and the US's expertise in AI and software. According to the South China Morning Post, the government dispatched the founder to the Beijing press event to boost confidence in the country’s private sector.

Hangzhou-based Unitree’s humanoid and quadrupedal robots have soared in popularity in the past year thanks to their relatively low entry prices. Still, Xingxing has emphasized that a mature, unified end-to-end AI system is needed to truly bring robotics into homes and workplaces at scale. Whoever solves the bottleneck, he said, could dominate both the robotics and AI markets.

China’s humanoid robotics sector has expanded rapidly since President Xi called for the mass production of synthetic humans back in November 2023. The Unitree founder noted that shipments grew significantly in early 2025, showing strong and building momentum.

China Mobile has placed a record-breaking order for humanoids from Unitree as well as Shanghai-based AgiBot. The contract, which runs into 2027, awards almost $11 million to AgiBot for its full-sized humanoids and 6 point $4 million to Unitree for its short Gee Ones. The order is via the telecom giant’s Hangzhou subsidiary.
