In Seemanchal, Bihar’s poorest region, voters in nearly every village have lost their vote without any basis as part of the special intensive revision of voter lists. They are not dead, absent, enrolled in multiple places, nor have they migrated. And yet, the Election Commission’s hastily conducted exercise has cut them out of the democratic process right before the state elections.

In part one of this three-part series, we travel to Ansari tola, a village where 22% of the voters have been deleted.
