Chinese American Medical Society (CAMS) & CAIPA (Coalition of Asian-American IPA) present a webinar by the NYC Health Department of Health ane Mental Hygiene on how healthcare providers can support all their patients who smoke by promoting treatment-regardless of their readiness to quit. The following topics will be covered in the webinar: smoking prevalence and health risks, patient counseling strategies, treatment options (including nicotine replacement therapy or NRT), as well as available tools to support treatment, billing, and patient education.

Achala Talati, DO, MS, MPH is the Director of the Tobacco Policy and Programs Unit at the New York City (NYC) Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). Dr. Talati is a board-certified preventive medicine physician and internist who has led clinical initiatives focused on provider education and equitable access to care, including development of local tobacco prevention and treatment guidelines and clinical tools. In her current role, she also oversees implementation of local tobacco control laws and surveillance for related emerging health issues, like e-cigarette- or vaping-associated lung injury (EVALI).

Dr. Talati completed her Public Health/Preventive Medicine Residency at DOHMH and her Internal Medicine Residency at Albany Medical Center. She also holds a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the CUNY School of Public Health and Health Policy.
