For any of my long-time viewers, the Dorado Pacifico/Sunscape in Ixtapa should ring a bell. After taking a few spins on their very sketchy service elevator 10-15 years ago, I've been receiving a ton of requests to go back and check up on it. I was finally able to go, and unfortunately, it wasn't running. Both service cars were dead, so it's possible they've just been decommissioned entirely. I did take a spin on the glass guest elevators, which ended up being more interesting than I expected. It appears that right after my last visit, they received a heavy mod and the machines were swapped out for Gen2s. The cabs appear to have remained and just received new panels. I've never heard of a Gen2 conversion before. There was a high profile incident at this hotel at the beginning of 2014 where a car ran past its final limit and crashed into the bottom of the shaft, so I'd assume that prompted the mod. This place is something else...
