This was a really fun read because it takes us to many far off worlds and places us in the first person perspective of the aliens themselves. We get to explore these exoplanets through their eyes.

James Trefil and Michael Summers begin our journey by taking us to a water world. This is a world where there are no continents. There is only one large ocean that covers the entire planet. Think about how much harder it would be for an alien species to achieve space flight on such a planet. They would have to somehow build rocket technology underwater and then they would have to launch that rocket up the ocean, through the atmosphere, and finally into outer space!

The journey continues on a moon similar to one of Saturn's moons Enceladus. This moon is covered by an ocean, but that ocean is also covered by a thick layer of ice that is miles thick. What would it be like to be an alien on this type of world? Imagine being the first brave explorer on your planet to drill up through the ice and then explode out of the hole you are in because you open up into the vacuum of space!

Another wild example that is described in the book is that of living on a rogue planet. This type of planet has been flung from it's solar system and is adrift in the vastness of space. It may even have drifted out of it's parent galaxy all together and be between galaxies. On this planet an alien may look up into the sky and see absolutely nothing because everything is too far away to see with the naked eye. In such a situation, would this species even want to go into outer space? What's the point of leaving your own planet if there's nowhere to go?
