While the mainline Pokémon games have settled into a reliable formula, 2022's Pokémon Legends: Arceus took the series in a more exciting direction. It featured a vast explorable world, new ways to engage with and catch Pokémon, and an interesting iteration of the tried-and-true battle system. With one game in the new Legends label under its belt, Game Freak is taking players back to another beloved period in the series timeline. Pokémon Legends: Z-A returns to Lumiose City from Pokémon X/Y, where excitement and danger come out more at night. Prior to the start of this weekend's Pokémon World Championships, Shacknews was invited to try the game out for the first time.
