Recipe and Directions:
Ingredients:
1 cup of rice (any variety such as long-grain, short-grain, jasmine, or basmati)
1 3/4 cups of water
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 Tbl. butter (optional)

Instructions:

1. Rinse the Rice: Place the rice in a fine-mesh sieve or colander and rinse it under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming too sticky.

2. Measure Water: In a saucepan, combine 1 3/4 cups of water. The ratio of water to rice is typically 2:1, but you can adjust it slightly based on your preference for softer or firmer rice. I like 1 3/4 cups, but you can use 2 cup

3. Add Salt and Butter (optional): Add 1/2 teaspoon of salt to the water, stirring until it dissolves. Then add 1 Tbl. butter to the water. The butter helps prevent the rice grains from sticking together and adds a subtle flavor.

4. Bring to a Boil: Place the saucepan on the stove over high heat. Bring the water to a rolling boil.

5. Add Rice: Once the water is boiling, add the rinsed rice to the saucepan. Give it a gentle stir to ensure the rice is evenly distributed in the water.

6. Reduce Heat and Simmer: Immediately reduce the heat to low to maintain a gentle simmer. Cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid.

7. Cook Rice: Allow the rice to simmer, covered, for about 17 minutes, or until all the water has been absorbed and the rice is tender. Avoid lifting the lid or stirring the rice during the cooking process to prevent steam from escaping.

8. Remove from Heat and Let it Rest: Once the rice is cooked, remove the saucepan from the heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 10 minutes. This allows the rice to steam and become fluffy.

9. Fluff and Serve: After 10 minutes, remove the lid and fluff the rice with a fork to separate the grains. Serve the rice hot as a side dish or as a base for your favorite recipes.
