Toxic Alcohol Tragedy in Bihar: 36 Dead, 44 Critical as Illegal Liquor Trade Flourishes

In April 2016, the Bihar government proudly announced the implementation of prohibition of liquor, calling it a historic step. Yet, nearly eight years later, the state remains haunted by the deadly grip of toxic alcohol. Tragic reports have emerged that 36 people, including one woman, have lost their lives due to poisonous liquor across 16 villages in Bihar. On Thursday, October 16, three more deaths were reported in Siwan and two in Saran, pushing the grim toll to 26 in Siwan and 10 in Saran. However, the administration has only officially acknowledged 24 of these fatalities. Disturbingly, all the victims in Saran had consumed alcohol on October 15.
