The completion uses the material that Schubert wrote for the Scherzo and first strain of the Trio; the second part of the trio is composed by Carragan, although thematically related to the other material. The last movement is based on the Second and First Entr'acte (in that order) from the Rosamunde Incidental Music; there is considerable circumstantial evidence (but no proof) that this material was originally intended for the Finale of the Symphony.
