Primer For Paradigm Shift - Conversation With Ole Ersson of Kailash Eco Village

This is a wonderful behind the scenes conversation with Ole Ersson, Kailash Eco Village co founder. Ole narrates how he and wife Maitre's penchant from rehabilitating old and run down real estate and passion to live in an intentional community with others lead them to buy a 35 unit run down apartment complex. The goal and vision? To create a thriving eco village where regular people can afford to live and can manifest their positive potentials.

Kailash Eco Village is close to the top of my list of actions, re purposing the urban landscape and benefiting many lives, that shows what paradigm shift can look like. Both the process for creating it but also, the outcome, a place where people share their lives, a place that is a benefit to the wider community, numbers of cars are reduced and shared, pavement is turned to garden and green space; waste is reduced, important social skills are learned and much more.

And then the cherry tree that lead Ole and Maitre to buy the run down apartment complex next door. The same plan, to turn that neglected and distressed place into a partner eco village to Kailash. Much that was learned at Kailash is being applied to Annapurna, making the repair and rehabilitation much smoother.

There are thousands of other apartment complexes all over the country that could be upgraded like Kailash and Annapurna. A handful of Kailash "graduates" have gone on to create smaller offspring eco villages in Madison, Wisconsin, Texas, Portland and elsewhere. The Kailash website - kailashecovillage.org has a lot of content, a sort of on line mentoring for others who also have interest to repair and repurpose urban real estate.

Ole calls on those who want alternative from the problems of the consumer culture to roll up their sleeves and get to work, no matter what their situation is. You don't need a million dollars or even to own your own property to take action for helping create a preferred present and future.
