Reinhard Bonnke was born on April 19, 1940, in Königsberg, Germany (now Kaliningrad, Russia), during the tumultuous years of World War II. Growing up in the aftermath of the war, Bonnke’s early years were shaped by hardship and uncertainty. Despite the difficult circumstances, he experienced a profound spiritual awakening at age 14 when he committed his life to Jesus Christ.

From a young age, Bonnke was deeply passionate about sharing the Gospel. He was inspired by missionary stories and the power of evangelism to transform lives. This calling led him to study at the Bible College of Wales in Swansea, United Kingdom, where he prepared for full-time Christian ministry. His training was rooted in Pentecostal theology, emphasizing the work of the Holy Spirit and spiritual gifts such as healing and prophecy.
In the early 1960s, Bonnke answered what he described as a divine call to take the Gospel to Africa. He felt that the continent was ripe for revival and that millions of people needed to hear the message of Jesus Christ. This vision became the driving force behind his life’s work.

Bonnke arrived in Africa as a young missionary, traveling to countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa. He was struck by the deep spiritual hunger among the people and the openness to the Gospel. Over time, he developed a unique approach to evangelism, combining large-scale outdoor crusades with a strong emphasis on the Holy Spirit’s power.
Reinhard Bonnke is best known for his massive evangelistic crusades, which drew crowds of hundreds of thousands, sometimes millions, to hear his preaching. In 1974, he founded Christ For All Nations (CfaN), an organization dedicated to spreading the Gospel across Africa.

His crusades were held in open fields, stadiums, and large public spaces, often lasting several days or weeks. Bonnke’s preaching was passionate, charismatic, and deeply rooted in the belief that God’s power could heal the sick, deliver the oppressed, and save souls in great numbers.

One of Bonnke’s greatest achievements was his ability to unite diverse groups of people. His meetings attracted Christians from various denominations and even those who had never attended church before. His emphasis on the Holy Spirit’s baptism and the gifts of the Spirit resonated deeply with many Africans, contributing to the rapid growth of Pentecostal and charismatic movements on the continent.
Throughout his ministry, Bonnke preached the Gospel to over 75 million people in more than 70 countries, with the majority of his work concentrated in Africa. His crusades broke attendance records, with some events reportedly drawing over one million attendees. These mass gatherings were often accompanied by reports of miraculous healings, deliverance from demonic oppression, and other supernatural phenomena.

His organization, Christ For All Nations, developed extensive media outreach efforts, including radio broadcasts, television programs, and printed materials. These helped extend his ministry’s reach far beyond the physical crusade locations.
At the heart of Bonnke’s preaching was the message of salvation through Jesus Christ. He stressed the necessity of repentance, faith, and surrender to God’s will. Unlike some evangelists who emphasize material prosperity, Bonnke focused on spiritual transformation and the power of the Holy Spirit to change lives.

Bonnke was a strong advocate for Pentecostal beliefs, particularly the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the accompanying gifts such as speaking in tongues, prophecy, and healing. His sermons often included calls for people to receive the Holy Spirit and experience God’s power firsthand.

He believed that miracles and healings were signs of God’s kingdom breaking into the present world, validating the message of the Gospel and drawing people to faith.
